Joey L. Wood was born in Houston, Texas, where her fascination with the night sky began long before she understood what it meant. As a child, she spent evenings studying the stars beside her father while her Rottweiler, Roxanne, pressed close at her side. She wrote horror stories, imagined life beyond Earth, and won her first computer in a writing competition — though she mostly used it to play The Oregon Trail.
She later studied psychology and anthropology at the University of Houston, disciplines that continue to shape the emotional and cultural architecture of her fiction. After building a career in technology and traveling extensively, she eventually made her home in Georgia, where she returned to writing with renewed focus.
Today, Joey lives outside of Atlanta with her daughter and their golden retriever, JJ. When she isn’t writing, she can be found immersed in video games or assembling intricate jigsaw puzzles at the dining table.
